Looks like we made it

Another Monday rolls on by and b4b has it's first podcast up! Tune in next week for: editing.

Anyways, the show ran pretty smoothly this morning and I got to play a bunch of jams by Howlin' Wolf, as well as a little more Nighthawks at the Diner era Tom Waits and some dylan goes electric era Dylan, so check it out.

p.s. wait for the sweet intro blues... including "backseat baby" a psa about driving with children in the backseat featuring Ray Charles.

Chocolate Drop

An executive decision at B4b headquarters has been made that tomorrow's show will focus on the blues vocal stylings of Howlin' Wolf.

...or in laymen's terms - It's going to be a Howlin' Wolf Show!

So tune in tomorrow morning at 9, here's a taste:

First Show

It happened! I was late, there's no podcast, but it happened and I'm excited!

...Just had to get that out of my system, lol.

This week's show sort of showcased Bo Diddley's first single the eponymous "Bo Diddley" and the b-side "I'm a Man," and also some of the work inspired by those two pieces of music. Bo Diddley is notable for a number of reasons, especially his influence on rock n' roll as a genre in it's early years, but he is also notable for his use of maracas and playing square guitars... which is pretty awesome.

Anyways, here is a brief video introduction to Bo Diddley and some derivatives of his music:

maracas

Dunh duna dun nuh That riff was originally appropriated by Bo Diddley from a Muddy Waters' release of Willie Dixon's "Hoochie Coochie Man" and in turn reinterpreted by Muddy Waters.

I mentioned maracas, right? Here's mick playing four of them with Brian Jones on harmonica and keith chugging out one of Bo's trademark riffs on their cover of Buddy Holley's "Not Fade Away," at NME 1964. They even close with with "I'm Alright".

Anyways, expect more news and blues next week, also an mp3 version of the show, hopefully.

Is there a hole for me to get sick in?

So, with a new semester comes a new early morning show for me, and this time around I'm singing the blues at 9 o'clock on 88.1 FM. I'm not going to lie, I'm sort of excited about it. Right now, my show is sandwiched between me showering and me going to biochem. So, hopefully with all the head and shoulders dandruff shampoo and amino acid side chains in order, I'll be putting together something of a blues hour for the next couple of months.

Aside from coffee and tudor's biscuits, I plan on playing a lot of Pre-World War II blues mixed with various blues influenced folk, rock, and Americana. Think Mountain Stage, only not live and and with slightly less Larry Groce...

Tune in Monday morning at 9:00 ante meridiem on 88.1 FM WMUL.

*No word on streaming just, yet, but you can anticipate an mp3 version of the show within about a day of the broadcast.
